The use of digital tools to adapt to climate change and the application of keyline design are the focus of the first session of the 2025 Agriculture and Environment Seminar, taking place on Saturday, February 1, at the Audience Hall of the Claustre del Carme in Maó.
The session begins at 9:30 a.m., includes two keynote presentations, and concludes with a lunch. Registration is open via this registration form.
The seminar will begin with a presentation by Eduardo de Miguel, Managing Director of the Global Nature Foundation, an organization dedicated to protecting nature through habitat and species conservation. He is also the leader of the AgriAdapt project, which focuses on implementing adaptation measures to enhance the resilience of agricultural systems to climate change while maintaining or improving their competitiveness.
In his talk, titled “How to Adapt to Climate Change? Field and Digital Tools,” de Miguel will demonstrate how to combine traditional knowledge with modern technologies using the CANARI app. This tool provides local agroclimatic indicators, enabling farmers to quickly and effectively anticipate the impacts of climate change on their land.
The second presentation will be delivered by Manel Badia, an expert in keyline design and holistic land management. Keyline design is a technique that reduces soil erosion on sloping terrain and improves the distribution and absorption of rainwater, especially during intense rainfall after prolonged droughts.
Badia’s talk, titled “Designs to Harness Rainwater in Agriculture and Livestock,” will present innovative solutions for efficient water use in agricultural systems.
Seminar Registration Fees:
- €25: Includes access to both sessions (February 1 and February 8).
- €15: Includes access to a single session.
Discounts are available for custodial agreement farmers, volunteers, and GOB members. Lunch is included in the fee.
