Es Viver – Plantes de Menorca, GOB Menorca’s garden centre specializing in native and Mediterranean plants, is seeking volunteers to support its project to promote sustainable gardening that is resilient to climate change. The plants sold at Es Viver are grown on site, mainly by volunteers, and they are:

  • longer-living plants
  • low water users
  • free from chemical additives
  • local plants grown locally

Es Viver is located on the road to the Airport, along the access to Maó’s recycling centre. It is open Tuesday to Saturday, from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm.

We’re looking for people committed to the environment

GOB Menorca is looking for more volunteers to support Es Viver – Plantes de Menorca, a social economy and organic production project. Es Viver is powered by a small team and a group of active volunteers who contribute their time and hands to make this initiative viable. If you’re interested in nature, gardening, organic farming—or if you simply want to get involved in a project that has a direct and positive impact on Menorca—this is a great opportunity.

What kind of profile are we looking for?

No prior knowledge of gardening or botany is required. What matters most is a willingness to learn and help.

We are looking for people who:

  • care about the environment and organic practices
  • are interested in native and Mediterranean plants that are part of our landscape
  • can offer a few hours a week on a regular basis (any morning from Monday to Saturday)

Volunteer tasks include sowing, transplanting, watering, organising workspaces, and supporting awareness-raising and educational activities.

Much more than a garden centre

While our immediate goal is to offer a wide variety of Menorcan and Mediterranean plants for gardens and patios, the deeper aim is to encourage a shift in gardening models across the island. On a territory like Menorca, the amount of landscaped surface is vast, and the prevailing model is unsustainable—it demands large amounts of water and agrochemicals and carries the constant risk of introducing potentially invasive species.

A change of model is needed. At the heart of this initiative is the idea of building a community around responsible gardening. Volunteers are the driving force of this spirit and the key to ensuring the continuity of the project.

If you feel connected to this mission and want to help make it possible, join us as a volunteer. Get in touch with us: send an email to info@gobmenorca.com, come and visit us at our headquarters (Camí des Castell, 53, Maó), or give us a call at 971 35 07 62.

You will be helping to grow gardens that care for Menorca.
