GOB children’s and youth naturalist group faces a new course full of activities.

GOB Menorca starts a new course of the naturalist group for children and young people between 7 and 15 years old, continuing an initiative that last year had an excellent reception from families and participants. The experience has shown the need and interest in offering educational and leisure spaces in contact with nature, and this year the program is reinforced with 8 monthly outings that will take place between October and May, on the third Sunday of each month.

An opportunity to grow in contact with nature

Although Menorca is a Biosphere Reserve, many children and young people on the island grow up in predominantly urban environments, with little opportunity to enjoy a direct and meaningful relationship with the natural environment. The naturalist group aims to reverse this trend by offering participants the chance to live sensory, playful, and educational experiences in the heart of nature.

The excursions, lasting a full day (from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.), take place in emblematic natural areas of Menorca and combine walks, workshops, games, dynamics, and moments of coexistence. This format allows children to discover the value of the island’s biodiversity and cultural heritage in a hands-on way, while also fostering cooperation and group cohesion.

More than an excursion: a space for coexistence and learning

The naturalist group is not just a monthly activity, but an educational project that accompanies children and young people throughout the school year. The monthly meetings create a stable and inclusive space, where each participant can feel part of a collective, share concerns and experiences, and develop values of respect and responsibility towards the environment.

In addition, repeated and continuous contact with different places on the island allows for establishing a deep and lasting relationship with nature, far beyond what can be achieved with occasional activities. This continuity is key to awakening in participants a real love for the territory and an active attitude of care.
