Summer is here, and it’s always nice to engage in activities that involve getting wet. That’s why we have found the perfect combination: cooling off in the waters of Fornells Bay and participating in one of GOB’s most important tasks, environmental education. The result is a free underwater photography activity that allows us to explore the blue world, capturing the beauty of the landscape and recognizing elements of Menorca’s marine flora and fauna.

This Summer, Nature and Wildlife Lovers in Menorca Have the Opportunity to Visit GOB’s Wildlife Recovery Center. From Monday, July 1st, until September 30th, the Center will open its doors to the public from Monday to Saturday starting at 6 PM until sunset.

We live in strange times. People rent lounge chairs on the beach to avoid touching the sand. But when the beach ends up looking like a hard surface without sand, as it has this year at Sant Tomàs, no one wants to rent chairs. Then, the City Council considers moving them to Binigaus, a pristine beach where there are still sandy areas, with the goal that people can rent the chairs and thus not touch the sand. That’s the way the world is.

The Balearic Islands coordinate to change the current tourism model

Under the slogan “Change course: set limits on tourism,” the four Balearic islands are jointly working on a schedule of mobilizations and demands.

As a result of the public protests that have taken place in the archipelago, some coordination has been called for to deal with the multiple social, labour and ecological aspects of the all-consuming tourism expanding into every corner of these islands.

Four Years of Science with Sea Observers

The project promotes school participation in microplastic research along the Menorcan coastline

The 2023-2024 school year marks the fourth consecutive year of the “Observadors del Mar” [Sea Observers] project, coordinated by the Environmental Education and Marine Environment areas of GOB Menorca. This initiative focuses on sampling and analyzing beach sand to detect the presence of meso and microplastics, complementing these activities with educational content about coastal ecosystems.
