Traditional practices as a guarantee of sustainability and the role of livestock in wildfire prevention are the focus of the second session of the 2025 Agriculture and Environment Seminar, taking place on Saturday, February 8, at the Convention Center in Es Mercadal.
There’s still time to register for this final session of the seminar! You can fill out the registration form, email us at custodia@gobmenorca.com, or call us at +34 971 350 762.
The session will open with Juan Solivellas Sabater, president of Asbatra. The representative of the Balearic Association for Animal Traction will present “Animal Traction in Today’s Agriculture: Modern Uses of a Traditional Practice.” His talk will explore how this age-old technique can have sustainable applications in contemporary agriculture.
Closing the seminar will be Marc Arcarons, head of the Ramats de Foc project—an initiative for wildfire prevention that aims to create more fire-resistant forested areas while ensuring the continuity of livestock farming. This dual-purpose approach benefits both food production and landscape management, making use of underutilized areas within farms.
In his presentation, “Bringing Livestock into the Wild: A Personal Opportunity and a Collective Benefit,” Arcarons will explain how livestock management can contribute to wildfire prevention and the recovery of agricultural landscapes.
The registration fee for this final session is €15. Discounts are available for farmers with land stewardship agreements, volunteers, and GOB members. The fee includes lunch.
The 2025 Agriculture and Environment Seminar is organized by Rayen Soluciones Agronómicas and the Agricultural Stewardship Program of GOB Menorca, with the support of the EU’s GOV4ALL initiative.
