Do you love nature and want to spend time outdoors while contributing to an important cause? Every spring, a group of passionate volunteers interested in agriculture and biodiversity heads out into the Menorcan countryside to monitor bioindicators on farms participating in the Custòdia Agrària (Agri-environmental Stewardship) program.
The goal? To show how sustainable farming practices benefit biodiversity—while enjoying a unique experience in nature.
What does the monitoring involve?
We’ll count the abundance and diversity of butterflies, which are easy to identify and highly sensitive to environmental change, and we’ll assess the presence of certain plant species, both those growing among crops and those that help us evaluate grazing intensity in the fields.
No previous knowledge needed!
We offer training and guidance so that anyone can take part without difficulty. You’ll receive a simple guide and clear instructions. All you need is a willingness to learn and to spend quality time outdoors!
When will it take place?
To join, you need to be available for the training sessions:
- Theoretical session: Thursday 24 April, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM at Molí del Rei (Maó)
- Field session: Friday 25 April (time and place to be confirmed)
We’re also looking for people who can dedicate a couple of mornings between May 5–18 and June 2–15, when we’ll go out to do the fieldwork. Tasks will be carried out in pairs or small groups.
If you love nature and want to be part of this experience, we’d love to have you on board!
