Santa Ponça and the indignant promoters

We have recently seen in the Menorcan press repeated messages by investors that have started agro tourism of Santa Ponça and Torre Vella. Some messages implied that this island is an embarrassment because procedures are very long, because tourism is not well received and that some farm improvements demand too much bureaucracy. Letter about water to Mrs Armengol and Mr Mir

One of the major problems that confronts Menorca is the shortage of water resources. This is a difficult matter to resolve because it is the Balearic Government that is responsible for its management and there have been successive cases of inaction, lack of transparency and failures to complete obligations. This is not a new problem, but it is never sorted out and in some cases becomes much worse. The latest example is from the increase in building development wanted at Torre-solí. The Plan of the Balearic Ports has recently become available for consultation, prior to its environmental processing. The two large towers built in the 1970s on the front line of the beach of Son Bou continue to give surprises. Some official documents from 1971 required that the two towers be reduced in height but have disappeared from all the public institutions. In any case, the hotels have been constructed over some basements although, when the licence was given, it was specifically stated there should be no building over them. This puts into question the legality of the whole building. Continue reading Son Bou hotels, lost documents and basements built without permissions

The road and the government roundabouts

The subject of the half built bridges at Rafal Rubí and l’Argentina, on the section of the main road between Mahon and Alaior, reappears periodically as a reminder of the conflict which was generated during the last government term of office and has made a return during the last few days. In GOB’s opinion, the situation of paralysis which we see from the outside is based neither on the technical aspects nor on the will of the politicians.
