This Saturday, 30 March, at GOB’s Es Viver, we will have a practical workshop on how to prevent and treat, in an ecological way, the pests and diseases of the garden and kitchen garden. What are the principal treatments, how to prevent and apply them, in order to keep gardens healthy. The workshop is open to all, is free and no reservations are required. Pledges to avoid disposable one use tableware

Since the 1 February the following have pledged with GOB to give up using disposable plastic tableware: Amics del Museu de Menorca (Friends of the Museum of Menorca), Esplai de Jubilats de Ciutadella (Retired People’s Club in Ciutadella), Club de Jubilats d’Alaior (Retired People’s Club in Alaior), AMPS (Association of Mothers and Fathers) de Sa Graduada, Mahon, Fra Rotger, dedicated to the cultural value of gastronomy. Sunday 3 February. Excursion to Binicalsitx, Binimassó and Calafi

On Sunday 3 February there will be an excursion to the archaeological sites of Binicalsitx, Binimassó and Calafi. These archaeological remains are not very well known and form part of the long list of sites of Menorca which testify to the existence of prehistoric settlements. In Bincalsitx there is an enormous talayot, at Binimassó there is a table enclosure and at Calafi there are two talayots and a small hypogeum (a subeterranean construction).

Interested people should meet at the Ferreries cemetery at 9.30 to leave at 10 am. It is a walk of low difficulty. The visit will be guided by an archaeologist. The return will be by foot to the start. It is not necessary to reserve. It is expected to end by 13.30. It is recommended to share cars with friends.

The cycle “Are we Talayotics? Life in Menorca then and now” is a programme organized jointly by the Consell Insular and GOB.

 

Saturday, workshop on roof gardens

This Saturday, 19 January at 10 am, Quel Marquès will give a workshop in Es Viver of GOB on roof gardens, a different form of gardening from usual. Roofs, flat roofs and walls have the capability of being converted into green spaces. The workshop will explain where and how to do them and what benefits they will give. General Meeting approved the budget and the new board of directors

The General Meeting of the Island Members of GOB approved on 20 December 2018 the report of activities for 2018, the budget for 2019 and the composition of the new board of directors. 2018 has been another year of intense activity in which we started new lines of working such as how to confront the problems of plastic and refuse ending up in the sea. Tomorrow, workshop on the care of vines at Es Viver

Xavier Solano, an expert viticulturist and wine producer, will give a practical workshop on the secrets of ecological cultivation of stocks grown in home gardens. It will take place this Saturday15 December at 10 am in the Es Viver nursery garden of GOB. It is a public workshop and admission is free, and starts the season for pruning and planting fruit trees that can also be found at Es Viver.
