A New Generation of farmers with the Land Stewardship Scheme

Between L’Agentina and Alcaidús there are 68 hectares of land managed by a young farmer full of hopes and dreams. Torralba d’en Salord has entered the Land Stewardship Scheme. This farm is run mainly for stock watered by rain, and its principal activity is for pasturing animals and sowing oats, both indigenous varieties of Menorca. With the intention of respecting the rhythm of the soil, the place is divided into two areas, one for grazing and one for sowing cereals, by rotation. Participation on bio indicator monitoring in Land Stewardship Scheme

Spring has arrived and with it, the monitoring of bio indicators on farms signed up to the Land Stewardship Scheme. The object of this exercise is to demonstrate, through voluntary participation, the positive relationship between the practice of sustainable farms and biodiversity. The Binibò Farm incorporated into the Land Stewardship Scheme

The network of those farms that are part of the Land Stewardship Scheme has increased with the incorporation of the Binibò Farm situated to the south of Ciutadella. With some 10 hectares of land, the principal production is from the orchard, a sector rather underrepresented in Menorca (the Island imports 90% of what is consumed from orchard and kitchen gardens). Foodnected: The Land Stewardship Scheme crosses frontiers

The Land Stewardship Scheme that was started in Menorca has been selected to form part of a Mediterranean initiative that seeks to promote a transition to sustainable and fair trade food systems. The network of farms that are signed up to the Land Stewardship Scheme will act as the pilot project to implement obtaining results, at the same time the Menorca experience will serve as an example and inspiration for their realization. Saturday 6 February, kitchen gardens without pests and fertile soil biology

The second day of the Seminars on Agriculture and the Environment will take place on Saturday 6 February. There will be two talks on the ecological management of kitchen gardens for the control of pests and for understanding soil microbiology in order to maximise the period of plant production. A virtual seminar on Agriculture and the Environment

How is a deserted farm in Monegros converted, without running water, into an abundant and profitable enterprise? The owner and farmer who has done this, Sergio Alierta, will explain from his first-hand knowledge. This is one of the experiences that was included in the documentary Kiss the Ground which shows how it is possible to film the progress of farm production that manages simply adequate rain water and cattle grazing.
