This Sunday, Open Doors at the Centre for Recuperation of Wild Animals

Visits: 216

This Sunday, 4 June, from 10 am to 2 pm, the day of “Open Doors” is an opportunity to visit the Centre for the Recuperation of Wild Animals in Menorca. You will see the animals living there and learn about the work done to care for wild animals of Menorca. This day is made possible with the collaboration of Lithica and the Town Hall of Ciutadella, to celebrate World Environment Day as well as the Land Stewardship Week.

The hospital treats more than a thousand animals a year. Most of their injuries are caused by human activity: nests in urban areas, road accidents, collisions with power cables, collisions with windows, attacks by pets, accidents with farm machinery, invasive species etc…We try to alleviate the effects on the animals and study solutions.

This Open Doors Day gives people the opportunity to visit the facilities where volunteers will show them the work that we are doing and be able to get close to animals that are symbolic of Menorca and cared for at the centre after they have been treated.

The Centre is found near the Lithica Quarries that are also open for this day to commemorate the World Environment Day as well as the Land Stewardship Week.

The Centre for the Recuperation of Wild Animals functions thanks to an agreement with COFIB (Consortium for Recuperation of Wild Life of the Balearic Islands) and help from the Island Governing Council through the Department of the Menorca Reserve of the Biosphere, and the Town Councils of Ciutadella, Maó, Es Mercadal, Ferreries, Sant Lluis and Es Castell. Fundamental is the help given by individuals who sponsor some of the resident animals and the dedicated volunteers who help with a multitude of tasks at the Centre.

The Centre is located at the Pedreres de s’Hostal managed by Lithica in Ciutadella , in Cami Vell km 1
