Pledges to avoid disposable one use tableware

Since the 1 February the following have pledged with GOB to give up using disposable plastic tableware: Amics del Museu de Menorca (Friends of the Museum of Menorca), Esplai de Jubilats de Ciutadella (Retired People’s Club in Ciutadella), Club de Jubilats d’Alaior (Retired People’s Club in Alaior), AMPS (Association of Mothers and Fathers) de Sa Graduada, Mahon, Fra Rotger, dedicated to the cultural value of gastronomy. Es Far Cultural (The Cultural Lighthouse) with the #Coompromis2020. This cultural association in Mercadal has already, and for some time, been using reusable ceramic and glass for their tableware at celebrations, but, even so, they wanted to sign the agreement showing their concerns for the problems of waste plastics in the sea. On the great necessity for a Marine Reserve around the Illa de l’Aire

The proposal to regulate the fishing around the Illa de l’Aire has been brought to public notice in the past few days. GOB has made court declarations and wants to make public some of the considerations regarding this. Menorca suffers from over fishing. The scientists who study the sea point out that the level of conservation of the marine ecosystems around the island does not correspond with the presence of fauna. The use of precision technology in professional fishing, the thousands of recreational boats sailing during the whole of the summer, the underwater fishing and the shortage of effective monitoring, leave many species in the Menorcan sea over exploited. More fiestas without plastic: a commitment for 2020

The Association of Neighbours of Es Castell has signed an agreement to organise fiestas utilizing reusable or biodegradable products. GOB is promoting a campaign between public organizations so that, when they organise fiestas, plastics for single use only are not utilized.
