Sign the petition for public monitoring of the Central Power Station

The emissions from the Central Power Station in Mahon are worrying because of their potential adverse effects on the environment and the health of the people. GOB is sending written requests to the Balearic Government for the installation of a meter system to be made available to the public so that anyone can make current readings of the levels of contamination from the power station. Friday 10 May. Conference on Climate Change with Damià Gomis

Damià Gomis is the director of the Interdisciplinary Laboratory on Climate Change at the University of the Balearics, that recently publicised a report on the economic, social and environmental effects of climate change in Menorca. Damià Gomis Bosch, winner of the Pere Prats Prize on the Environment

The jury has unanimously nominated Damià Gomis Bosch as the winner of the Pere Prats Prize for the Environment. The jury considers that Damià Gomis possesses all the qualities that merit the Pere Prats Prize 2018 because of a scientific career notable for his researches into the marine ecosystem and its link with the climate and, by extension, to the possible effects from climate change both now and in the future, and for his work on a project of international renown. GOB has sent a complete report on the environmental problems generated by the central electricity power station in Mahon to the new Minister of Energy and the Environment, in the transitional government in Madrid, Teresa Ribera, asking for favourable regulations concerning renewable energies in order to reduce contamination. GOB notes the stagnation of politics in environmental protection of the land and sea

The different island sections of GOB came together over the days of 15 and 16 June, in Mallorca, for the meeting of the Inter Island Board of Directors. This reunion happens annually, rotating between the various Balearic Islands. On this occasion a résumé of their activities and the interisland accounts were given for 2017, audited externally.
