Hort de Binidalinet Nou, on the road of Sa Volta des Milord has, this month, joined the network of farms that are signed up to a land stewardship agreement with GOB.On this occasion, it is a young couple who has decided to restore the agricultural activities of this farm and to dedicate it to growing seasonal vegetables especially of local varieties. Currently, it is being transformed in order to obtain certification for ecological agriculture.
Vinicius, who studied in Sa Granja, explained to us that it was his apprenticeship with and the influence of Tiago de Sa Bassa that were very important and inspired him to start this project. Experiences such as these demonstrate that the country is also a sector where entrepreneurs can take responsibility for its future. In this case it is the launch of a local economic activity for managing the environment, thanks to the certification of ecological agriculture and the land stewardship scheme.
Marketing of the farm products will be made through direct sales and, in the coming months we will be able to find them in the AgroMaó the farm market found on Sundays at the Plaza Real. Contact details can be found in http://www.gobmenorca.com/sites/default/files/cataleg_menorca.pdf.
With this land stewardship scheme, there are now 27 farms on the island that have decided to manage their farms in an ecologically responsible manner with an emphasis on the environment and its natural resources.
The agreements that are part of the land stewardship scheme have the support of the Consell Insular of Menorca.
