Nature and wildlife lovers in Menorca have the opportunity to visit the Menorca’s Wildlife Recovery Centre this summer. From Monday, 7 July, until 30 August, the Centre will be open to the public from Monday to Saturday, starting at 6 p.m. and until sunset.
Location and access
The Centre is located within the Lithica Quarry Site (Pedreres de s’Hostal), at Camí Vell de Ciutadella, km 1. This privileged setting allows visitors to enjoy a stunning natural and ethnological environment, while also getting a close-up look at the local wildlife recovery efforts carried out jointly by GOB Menorca and the Balearic Islands Wildlife Consortium (COFIB), with the support of the Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Natural Environment of the Balearic Islands Government.
To access the Centre, visitors must first purchase an entrance ticket to Lithica. The general admission price is €8, though residents and those eligible for other discounts can buy it for €5. Children under 13 enter free of charge. Once inside Lithica, visitors can access the Wildlife Recovery Centre for a €2 supplement, also free for children under 13. It is recommended to purchase Lithica tickets in advance via the website: https://lithica.es/
An educational and awareness-raising experience
The visit offers an extraordinary opportunity to see emblematic animals of Menorca’s wildlife, understand the threats they face, and learn how the Centre works to help them recover. The route is guided and features a series of informative panels explaining the animals’ characteristics and the issues affecting them.
The tour includes several zones:
- Terrarium: Where you can see land tortoises in the process of recovery.
- Toad breeding pond: A space to learn about these amphibians.
- Birds of prey areas: Where visitors can observe falcons, kestrels, kites, barn owls, eagle owls and other birds that have suffered severe injuries and cannot be released back into the wild. These birds remain at the Centre and contribute to important environmental education and awareness-raising efforts.
Visiting the Wildlife Recovery Centre is an exciting and educational experience that highlights the importance of protecting Menorca’s wildlife and supporting efforts to recover animals that have been injured. We look forward to welcoming you!
