The Alliance for Agroecology in Menorca is organising a Project Definition Workshop next Thursday, 19 February, at CentreBit Menorca (Av. des Camp Verd, 4, in Alaior), with the aim of opening up the participatory process launched a year ago and bringing new people and organisations into the transformation of Menorca’s agricultural sector towards a more sustainable, fair and territory-rooted model.
After a first year of work driven by a small core group, the Alliance wants to take a step forward and broaden the project’s social base. Promoting the agroecological transition — which links agricultural production and nature conservation — is a collective challenge that requires everyone’s involvement.
This workshop aims to be key to expanding participation, defining shared priorities for the next two years and launching working groups to develop concrete projects.
During the workshop, participants will work collaboratively to define the Alliance’s strategic lines for the next two years and to initiate working groups in charge of promoting new projects and initiatives.
The process launched in 2025 has already begun to bear fruit, with tools and initiatives such as:
- The Alliance’s declaration, open to new endorsements, “in favour of a sustainable and resilient agri-food model that preserves the natural and cultural values of our territory”.
- The website menorcaagroecologica.org.
- An explanatory video and leaflet.
- A pioneering agricultural innovation project to improve soil fertility, involving 15 Menorcan farms of different types for at least two years.
- An ongoing initiative: the feasibility study of an Agroecological Distribution Centre (CAD).
The Alliance for Agroecology in Menorca brings together organisations committed to making the island’s agricultural sector more sustainable from an environmental, economic and social perspective, and advocates strengthening joint action in view of the scale of the challenge of transforming an entire productive sector. For this reason, the Alliance now invites all individuals and groups interested in the future of Menorca’s countryside to join actively.
