With the arrival of autumn, the land stewardship excursions are back! We kick off the season with a visit to one of the newest additions to GOB’s Custòdia Agrària program: Son Blanc Nou, a farm known for its circular model, aiming to produce all the resources it consumes. Participants will have the chance to explore the farm and learn about its agricultural management, followed by a tasting of local products.
The excursion will take place on Saturday, October 26, in the morning. The activity cost is 10€, which includes a guided tour and a tasting session. Prior registration is required through this link.
We will meet at 9:30 a.m. in the Alaior area, where we will organize carpooling to head together to Son Blanc Nou. The excursion includes a 4 km walk within the farm, passing through canyon areas, and ending with a slight uphill stretch. After the walk, we will enjoy a tasting of products made on-site, alongside other local goods from different farms in the Custòdia Agrària program. The activity is expected to conclude around 1:30 p.m. back at the meeting point.
Son Blanc Nou is a 130-hectare farm that was once abandoned and even served as a dumping site for construction waste. A few years ago, it changed hands with the aim of reviving its agricultural activity and developing a fully self-sustainable agrotourism project.
The restoration process has been extensive, taking into account the rehabilitation of long-abandoned farmhouses, reviving non-existent agricultural activity, and finding ways to minimize the environmental footprint of the tourism operations.
During the activity, we will visit the vegetable garden, the pasture and crop areas, and walk through the natural landscapes of the farm. You will learn how they use geothermal energy to regulate water and building temperatures, collect rainwater, treat wastewater, minimize waste, and reuse organic matter from the agrotourism activities in the farm’s cultivation areas.
The Custody Agrarian program supports agricultural initiatives that prioritize environmental sustainability. To gain a broader perspective of the program, check out this one-minute summary video.
