GOB’s Environmental Education service is starting the year with a new educational proposal, Outings on Sustainability. Six routes, one a month, are planned for young people between 12 and 16 years old to promote contact with and knowledge of the island’s environmental values and cultures.
We will walk and talk about Menorca, its environmental values, and its potential from an environmental and educational point of view. The objective is to understand the island’s nature, enjoy getting to know some of its peculiarities and to talk about the opportunities we have for making it into a more sustainable and healthy place.
The six outings on sustainability are designed to show the different types of areas that can be found in Menorca: the north coast, the south coast, ravines, woods, agricultural land, urban spaces…Relating to each area, we will discuss different environmental issues: biodiversity and human activities, marine environment and rubbish, agriculture and food, geology and anthropology of the island.
Saturday 16th of January, we will start to stretch our legs and nourish our minds with our first excursion along the north coast of Menorca. We will leave at 9.30 and return at 13.30.
We will have time both to walk and rest and share snacks made from products of the Land Stewardship Scheme making a change in the dynamics of the theme of the outing…The theme of the first route will be the geology of Menorca, its geography and wind. We will also cross over different areas of environmental value.
This route of the excursion is of medium difficulty and it is recommended to wear shoes suitable for the wet terrain. The activity is directed to the young between the ages of 12 to 16. Wearing a mask is obligatory. For security and health organization, the number of places is limited and at the start of the event a list of people attending will be circulated.
You can now register by sending an email to administracio@gobmenorca.com with your name, surname and date of birth. Once registered you will be informed on the exact meeting point. The price of each outing is 5 euros which includes monitoring, snacks and a guide on the Menorcan environment.
These events are made possible thanks to the Fons Menorquí de Cooperació (Menorcan Fund for Cooperation) and its project on Education for Global Citizenship and Local Development.
Let’s go walk and learn!
