This Sunday will be the start of the talayotic excursions of 2018 organised by the Consell Insular with GOB uniting the discovery of places on the island with scientific information on the talayotic world.
On this occasion the walk will be from the Son Bou area and Llucalari in order to visit Torre d’en Galmés, one of the largest archaeological sites of Menorca and the most excavated. The activity is part of the programme of the Sant Antoni festival and will also include a gastronomic surprise.
This talayotic town is estimated to be about 3,600 years old and there are three talayots conserved, a number of round houses, a table in an enclosure, a hypostyle room (roof supported by pillars), a water collection system and four underground areas which were originally for funerary functions.
On this occasion there is no need to make a reservation. The meeting point will be at 9.30 am in the first car park at Son Bou (on the right hand side as you arrive). The walk will start at 10 am with an itinerary of beautiful countryside interspersed with ravines and coves giving variety. The level of difficulty is low-medium because the excursion is short but there are parts climbing up and going down.
The visit to the remains will be divided into groups which will be guided by archaeologists. There is a return bus, free and courtesy of the Consell Insular. It is estimated to finish at 13.30.
The cycle Som talaiòtics? Viure a Menorca abans i ara (Are we talayotic? Living in Menorca then and now) is a program organised jointly by the Department of Culture of the Consell Insular and GOB.
