The Island Coordinator of GOB Menorca, died suddenly during last night from a cardiac arrest. The Island has lost a great person.
At 61, Tòfol Mascaró has been attached to GOB for many years. At the end of the eighties, during a time that was very complicated for ecology and when GOB was a very much smaller entity than now, he became President and led the group in campaigns to defend the island’s countryside and territorial rights.
Trained as a biologist, passionate about nature and loving Menorca deeply, he knew all its corners and details of its biodiversity, and dedicated most of his time to its conservation. He edited several publications, both scientific and informative, as an expert on the Island’s nature.
In 2009 he assumed the position of Island Coordinator of GOB leading the management and participating in many parts of its work. Probably, many people knew him from giving courses, directing excursions, giving talks to high schools, making statements to the press…
His loss leaves a huge void, but his legacy is an example of commitment and GOB will try to continue with the immense work he has contributed to the island.
The Ordinary General Meeting for members set for today has been postponed to Wednesday 27 December at 20.15.
