GOB Menorca is calling on all those who took part in the educational summer camps during their initial phase, specifically from 1990 to 2005, to attend a reunion filled with memories and friendship.

The event will take place at Parc des Freginal in Maó, on August 13, starting at 7:30 PM.

This gathering will be a wonderful opportunity to reunite, laugh over old-time anecdotes from our childhood and youth, share what we’ve learned, express our love for nature, and celebrate friendship and life.

From 1990 to 2002, GOB Menorca organized two educational summer camps each year, which were very popular among families seeking educational leisure activities for their children in natural settings. The camps were held in locations such as Mongofra, Sa Torreta, Cala Mica, and Rafalet.

In 1998, a special trip was organized to the GOB Mallorca estate “La Trapa,” which included a visit to Dragonera Island. That same year, the organization began offering itinerant routes or colonies along the Menorca coast for older youths, an activity that continued every summer until 2005. Over this period, these activities engaged more than a hundred children each summer.

Those children from the GOB camps and routes are now adults who fondly remember their experiences. It is no surprise, as spending days in nature, surrounded by friends, guided by educational leaders, and occasionally visited by fantastic characters with their stories and challenges, is invaluable. Sunrise walks, morning bird songs, exploring the land and discovering the origins of our food, sharing tasks… Nights of storytelling and singing, learning to respect and care for the environment… These are experiences that become precious memories, solid values, and formative moments that help people grow in every sense and better understand the world.

For all these reasons, many people have been encouraging GOB to organize a reunion, which will finally take place on Tuesday, August 13, at 7:30 PM, at Parc des Freginal in Maó.

The program includes photo projections, an open mic for anecdotes, experiences, and emotions, and sharing food and drinks among friends to reconnect and catch up on how life has progressed while looking towards the future of our island’s environment.

After a few years’ hiatus, GOB Menorca resumed its educational summer colonies in 2017. These currently take place at Mongofra Nou and are organized into three age groups, with a fourth group also doing an itinerant coastal route. We are convinced that in twenty years, the children enjoying these camps today will also want to reunite as the adults they will become and celebrate with us.
