GOB Menorca presents its new environmental education program for the 2024–2025 school year, under the slogan “Continuing with Nature!”. Specially designed for Menorca’s schools, this program encourages meaningful learning through direct experiences with nature. With a diverse range of activities, it provides teachers and students with tools to foster and develop critical and committed environmental awareness.
A Program Tailored to Each Educational Stage
Focusing on holistic and cross-disciplinary education, the activities cover all educational levels, from early childhood to vocational and adult education. The workshops, field trips, and interactive sessions are designed to promote cognitive skills such as observation, analysis, and real-world environmental problem-solving.
Activities for Early Childhood Education (Ages 2-5)
For the youngest students, the program includes engaging stories like “Na Mordala,” a crab exploring the seabed, and “En Taques,” a toad experiencing its metamorphosis. These stories not only spark imagination but also introduce children to the natural world in a fun and educational way. Additionally, they can visit the Menorca’s Wildlife Rescue Center, where they learn about the care of local fauna and the importance of its protection and conservation.
Activities for Primary Education
Primary school students have the chance to go on educational excursions along the Camí de Cavalls, take part in beach activities where they learn about marine ecosystem preservation, or visit agrarian stewardship farms. These learning experiences help them understand key concepts like biodiversity, natural resource management, and agricultural sustainability. The program also includes thematic workshops on water, Menorca’s fauna and flora, and other important environmental topics.
Environmental Education for Secondary, High School, and Vocational Students
For teenagers, GOB Menorca offers a more critical and reflective approach. Activities such as sustainable snorkeling allow them to discover the island’s marine biodiversity while promoting responsible environmental behavior. The program also offers talks on sustainable water and waste management, aiming to stimulate debate and encourage active participation in addressing current environmental challenges. Through these activities, students are invited to develop their commitment as future active and respectful citizens.
Educational Resources and Support for Schools
GOB Menorca makes these resources accessible by offering free activities, thanks to the support of several collaborating organizations. In addition, schools can take advantage of free transportation for some of the field trips, such as visits to agrarian stewardship farms, ensuring that as many students as possible can participate.
Registration and Activity Evaluation
Schools can register through the GOB Menorca website: gobmenorca.com/educacio-ambiental/. Once registered, each school will receive all the necessary information to carry out the activity effectively. After completing the activities, educators have the opportunity to evaluate the experience through a feedback form, where they can also provide suggestions for improvement and share their observations.
With this educational offer, GOB Menorca provides schools with essential tools to educate new generations in the care and protection of the environment, reaffirming its commitment to teachers and the educational community.
Let’s keep learning from nature! Together, we can enjoy, educate, and protect Menorca.
