It is currently being discussed if a moratorium to stop the further construction of houses in areas without mains drains can be made by the Balearic Government. In GOB we think that the problem is not only with the building of new houses, but also with the hundreds that already exist causing nitrates to enter the Minorcan aquifer each day. Contract cancelled for the work to the Main Road of Menorca. The First Step Forward

The controversial project for building large roundabouts along the main road between Mahon and Ciutadella has been rejected formally. This was announced on 4th February by the Island Council (Consell Insular) by mutual agreement with the companies concerned and without having to make any compensation payments. A return to rational land legislation

A greater part of the large urbanisation threats to the rural land of Menorca, gestating during the last few years, will not be easy to execute any longer. The Decree which was published on 13 January in the Government’s Official Report incorporates most of the demands made over the last few years in the campaigns for land conservation. The proposed refuse plant linking to the roundabout of Biniai ought to reinitiate planning approval

Planning approval must be reinitiated for the controversial project of a refuse plant for waste building materials to be situated in rural countryside between Mahόn and Alaior.  Significant deficiencies in the study of the environmental impact of such a plant make earlier statements to the public null and void.
