The presence of a pipe that had been discharging sewage onto the rocks at Cap d’en Font has resulted in a proposed fine of €150,000.
Last summer, GOB Menorca reported the illegal discharge of sewage from a house in Cap d’en Font, a residential area filled with large villas and lush green lawns but lacking a proper sewage system. The sewage had been flowing through a concealed pipe hidden among the vegetation, and eyewitnesses indicated that this had been an ongoing issue.
Following the complaint, including photographic evidence, the SEPRONA patrol carried out an inspection to verify the facts. The installation was not directly connected to the septic tank but originated from a basement. However, water tests revealed high levels of fecal contamination, including fecal coliforms, intestinal enterococci, ammonia, and suspended solids.
This official information contradicts the statement made earlier by the Environmental Councillor of Sant Lluís Town Council, who claimed that the complaint was baseless and that the discharge involved was simply rainwater.
The sanction, processed by the Directorate-General for Coasts of the Balearic Government, classifies the offense as “very serious.” Fines for such violations range between €150,253 and €300,506. The lower end of the fine was imposed, which will have to be paid by the property owner.
