Son Bou hotels, lost documents and basements built without permissions

Visits: 168

The two large towers built in the 1970s on the front line of the beach of Son Bou continue to give surprises. Some official documents from 1971 required that the two towers be reduced in height but have disappeared from all the public institutions. In any case, the hotels have been constructed over some basements although, when the licence was given, it was specifically stated there should be no building over them. This puts into question the legality of the whole building. Continue reading Son Bou hotels, lost documents and basements built without permissions

The talk will be accompanied by showing the film “Out of Plastic” made in Mallorca. Continue reading Wednesday 10 April, conference on drinking water and the overuse of plastic

The road and the government roundabouts

Fauna from Menorca: The Scopoli’s Shearwater

Visits: 422

The large Scopoli’s shearwater, after crossing the whole of the Atlantic, comes to breed each year in the Mediterranean islands. And, towards the end of October, at the Recuperation Centre for Wild Animals, we receive many calls from people telling us that they have found a baby sea gull on land, at the house, or in the street. When we tell them it is a shearwater and not a sea gull, they are stunned. So what is a shearwater? They are pelagic marine birds, meaning that they live in the open sea and only touch land to breed. In the Balearics there are two species, the Balearic shearwater (Puffinus mauretanicus) and the much more abundant, large, Scopoli’s shearwater (Calonectris diomedea).
